About Vermont Actors' Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.)
HISTORY OF ART: Vermont Actors’ Repertory Theatre was conceived over 30 years ago when several transplants from the urban area decided they wanted to create a regional theatre in southern Vermont. The mission was to provide an opportunity for actors to work together and grow as an ensemble company and to provide a level of performance and production excellence for the audience.
Over the years, the original founders went on to other artistic endeavors, but the company continued as a very successful community theatre group way into the 1990’s. Early on in 2002, the late Ilene Blackman, Sandra Gartner and Peter Marsh decided to revisit the original concept for ART. The three formed a partnership, received 501C 3 status as a non-profit company, and opened their first season at the Paramount Theatre in the winter of 2005.
Vermont Actors’ Repertory Theatre is in its 17th season of presenting playful, poignant and provocative theatre. ART’s season runs from November through May and includes full mounted productions, staged readings and play festivals. Productions are presented in the Unitarian Universalist Church in downtown Rutland. Co-producers are Sandra Gartner and Kristen Hixon.
